Homemade Kahlua (Coffee Liqueur)

Ingredients
  • Granulated sugar1 1/3 cups
  • Water1 1/4 cups
  • Instant espresso powder1/4 cup
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder1 teaspoon
  • Vodka1 1/3 cups
  • Brandy2/3 cup
  • Vanilla beans, split lengthwise2
Instructions
  1. 1Heat sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. 2Stir until dissolved.
  3. 3Stir in espresso powder and cocoa.
  4. 4Bring just to a boil.
  5. 5Remove from heat.
  6. 6Off heat, add vodka and brandy.
  7. 7Stir.
  8. 8Place split vanilla beans in a 1-quart glass jar.
  9. 9Pour the mixture over the beans.
  10. 10Seal the jar.
  11. 11Steep in a cool dark place for 1–2 months.
  12. 12Shake weekly.
  13. 13Strain when mellowed.
