Ingredients
- Rye whiskey (Sazerac Rye preferred)1.5 oz
- Sugar cube1 cube
- Peychaud’s Bitters3 dashes
- Herbsaint (for rinse)0.25 oz
- Lemon peel1 twist
Instructions
- 1Pack an Old-Fashioned glass with ice to chill.
- 2Place a sugar cube in a second Old-Fashioned glass.
- 3Add Peychaud’s Bitters.
- 4Crush to dissolve the sugar.
- 5Add rye whiskey.
- 6Add ice.
- 7Stir to chill.
- 8Discard the ice from the first glass.
- 9Add Herbsaint to coat the inside of the first glass.
- 10Discard the excess Herbsaint.
- 11Strain the whiskey–bitters–sugar mixture into the Herbsaint-rinsed glass.
- 12Express a lemon peel over the drink.
- 13Garnish with the peel.

- Chill the serving glass.
