Ingredients
  • Eggs6
  • Sugar1/4 cup
  • Salt (optional)1/4 tsp
  • Milk, divided1 quart
  • Vanilla extract1 tsp
Instructions
  1. 1Whisk together the eggs, sugar, and salt in a large saucepan.
  2. 2Stir in 2 cups of the milk.
  3. 3Cook gently over low heat until the mixture coats the back of a metal spoon and reaches 160°F.
  4. 4Stir constantly.
  5. 5Remove from heat.
  6. 6Stir in the remaining 2 cups milk and the vanilla.
  7. 7Cover.
  8. 8Chill several hours or overnight.

Pro Tip

  • Salt is optional.
  • Serve cold.
