Ingredients
- Granulated sugar1/2 cup (100 g)
- Orange (juice and zest)1 large
- Star anise1 whole
- Cinnamon stick1 stick
- Whole cloves6
- Freshly grated nutmeg1 teaspoon
- Fresh ginger, grated1/2 teaspoon
- Green cardamom pods2 pods
- Red wine1 bottle (750 ml)
- Aquavit100 ml (about 1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp)
- Raisins (for serving)3/4 cup (200 ml)
- Chopped or sliced almonds (for serving)3/4 cup (200 ml)
Instructions
- 1Combine the sugar, orange juice and zest, star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and cardamom in a pot over medium heat.
- 2Heat gently.
- 3Stir often until the sugar dissolves.
- 4Add the red wine.
- 5Warm gently for about 15 minutes.
- 6Stir in the aquavit.

- Do not boil.
- Serve warm.
- Offer raisins and almonds for guests to add to taste.
